The Work
How We Show Up…
“We do not wait for the perfect moment or the perfect resources. We show up with what we have, where we are, for whoever needs us. That has always been enough to start.”
Introduction
The work of Jeremiah 29:11 Project did not begin with a building or a budget or a board meeting. It began with two people, a Prius, a box of tote bags, and an unshakeable conviction that no one in their community should go unseen.
In 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic, Founder Tiarsha Betha and Board Secretary Steven Lush Khamphouy took to the streets of downtown San Diego, California. They had fundraised, shopped, packed, and prayed. They had filled tote bags with toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, tissue paper, masks, nail kits, and feminine hygiene products. They had packed lunches with; tangerines, water, Nutri-Grain bars, chips, and Chipotle chicken burritos, and then they drove to the places where people needed them most.
That day they served between 55 and 66 individuals experiencing homelessness. Every single one of them was grateful. Every single one of them was human. Every single one of them reminded Tiarsha and Steven exactly why this work exists and exactly why it could never stay on pause forever.
Life happened as it always does but the mission never left them. Now more experienced, more established, more equipped, and more determined than ever Jeremiah 29:11 Project is picking up exactly where it left off. Only this time it is official. This time it is Atlanta. This time it is built to last.
How We Work
At Jeremiah 29:11 we believe in meeting people exactly where they are physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We do not ask anyone to come to us before we have first come to them. Our outreach model is built on presence, consistency, and the radical belief that every interaction no matter how brief, has the power to remind someone that they matter.
Our Programs & Services
Outreach Events: Meeting People Where They Are
Our outreach events are the heartbeat of Jeremiah 29:11 Project. Our target is quarterly in Year One and growing to weekly or biweekly as we expand, these events bring our team directly into the communities where individuals experiencing homelessness whom are living on Atlanta’s streets, near its shelters, and in the spaces where people gather when they have nowhere else to go.
At every outreach event attendees can expect meals, water, snacks, and essential hygiene supplies including toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, tissue paper, and feminine hygiene products. We pack with care and distribute with dignity, because how you give something matters as much as what you give.
Spiritual Support & Faith Based Programming
Jeremiah 29:11 Project is a faith-based organization in the truest sense. Not in name only but in practice, in presence, and in purpose. Our spiritual programming includes prayer, encouragement, and one on one conversations that create space for individuals to encounter faith on their own terms. Never forced, never transactional, always genuine.
In Year One we are believing and working toward at least 100 individuals making the decision to give their lives to Christ through our outreach. Not as a statistic, but as 100 individual human beings whose stories just took a turn toward hope.
Resource Connections & Referrals
A meal feeds someone for a day, but a resource connection can change the trajectory of their life. At Jeremiah 29:11 Project we are actively building a network of partners ranging from mental health professionals, medical care providers, housing navigators, recruiting agencies, and social service organizations so that every person we encounter has access to more than what we can provide alone.
Workforce Development & Trade Skills: Coming in Year Two and Beyond
We believe that dignity is restored not just through compassion but through opportunity. One of the cornerstones of our long term vision is a robust workforce development program that equips individuals with the trade skills, financial literacy, and employment connections they need to build sustainable, independent lives. We are currently laying the groundwork for this program.
Mental Health & Medical Support: Coming in Year Two and Beyond
We know that homelessness is rarely just about housing.
Mental illness, addiction, trauma, and untreated medical conditions are woven through the stories of many of the individuals we serve. We are committed to building partnerships with licensed mental health professionals and medical care providers who can bring their expertise directly into our community.
